Since then, every year, a different national section of the organization prepares a poster message that is distributed around the world, in order to emphasize the value of books and reading by encouraging international cooperation for the development and dissemination of literature for children and young people. In 2022, the Department of Canada is responsible for the material of the celebration. The message was written by award-winning author Richard Van Camp. The poster was created by also award-winning illustrator and author Julie Flett.

On this occasion, the students of the A2 class were the ones who had worked on the speech of John Biden, and welcomed in our classroom on April 7, 2022, Mrs. Dimitra Pyrgelis, a woman who loves books very much, and serves it with respect, she is a writer and has dealt with the folklore tradition of Thrace, especially known and loved in the local community. Mrs. Pyrgelis’s narrative and experiential approach captivated the students, enchanted them with her honest and authentic speech, introduced them in active listening and reading, helped to cultivate the students’ literacy and stimulate their interest in the books.
The students discussed in a two-hour activity the messages of the poster of the Canadian author with Mrs. Pyrgelis and finally came to the conclusion
that words and culture in general are bridges that unite people, we are what we communicate, that words shape the way of thinking as well as that ideas can be discussed, people must be respected and finally that insult is not argument. That is, all the basic principles of the manifesto of non-violent communication.

Another activity associated with the AMELIE program and hate speech took place on the occasion of World Children’s Book Day, which is celebrated every year on April 2, the day the great Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen was born.
